Mgr. Tomáš Klimek, Ph.D.

Director of the Historical and Music Collections Division

Tomas Klimek graduated from the Palacký University in Olomouc, the Faculty of Arts in history (2003) and from the Charles University in Prague, in the doctoral program of Czech history (2011). He also studied at New York University in the USA (2006) and Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (2007). Since 2008 he has been an employee of the National Library of the Czech Republic. He worked as a cataloger in the Department of Manuscripts and Old Prints for the first year. Then, for ten years, he participated in coordinating the digital library for historical documents Manuscriptorium. In 2019, he was appointed Director of the Historical and Music Collections Division. As part of his work, he participates in the coordination of research activities and projects of the Division, promotes professional outputs, and represents the National Library in major international projects related to historical book collections (EUROPEANA, Bibissima, UNESCO working group). His publication focuses mainly on landscape formation and perception of space in the Middle Ages and the issue of historical communications.
